We all know that you don’t have to break the bank to show your loved ones you care. Since Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, I decided to create an easy project for all my vinyl crafters out there! Are you ready to get crafty?! Alright then, Let’s go!
Supplies List:
Cutting Machine (Cricut, Silhouette, Brother Scan & Cut or GCC cutter)
Permanent Vinyl
Transfer Tape
Weeding Tool
4 x 4 Wooden Plaque
Acrylic Red Paint
Acrylic White Paint
Acrylic Pink Paint
Flat Paint Brush
Cricut Scraper
Optional Clay Jar
Directions
STEP 1. Download the Free SVG File and Upload it.
Download the “you make my heart smile” SVG file and then upload it to the Cricut Design Space.
STEP 2. Resize and Cut.
Once you’ve uploaded the file, it will need to be resized to 3 x 3.2 inches to fit the 4 x 4 plaque.
Quick Note: Don’t forget to set your machine settings to vinyl.
STEP 3. Weed and add transfer tape.
Now it’s time to cut and weed the design. It’s really easy to make a rip while weeding, so make sure that you take your time.
Place the transfer tape over the design and then use your scraper to smooth over the design before adding it to the plaque.
STEP 4. Place the design.
Alright! We are almost at the finish line. Take the design and adhere it to the plaque. Once again, you want to go really slow and watch out for the top of the (i) in the word smile. It’s teeny weeny and easy to miss.
STEP 5. Let’s Paint.
Grab your paint and begin decorating your wooden plaque. I chose to paint an abstract design, but you can totally design your plaque however you please. Allow your plaque to dry for about 20-30 minutes or overnight before gifting it.
Optional: You can seal your plaque or place it inside of a jar. I didn’t have any sealant on hand, so this is how I improvised. I actually like the jar idea because it adds an element of surprise!
