There is nothing like receiving or giving gifts during the Christmas season. Doesn’t it make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside? For the past two years, It has been my goal to give intentional gifts rather than things that will end up in a basement, re-gifted, or worse, in the trash. I’ve decided to create a simple list for the folks who want to start giving in a more meaningful way without breaking the bank. The first tip is to…
1.Write a thoughtful message in a card.
Yes, I did say a card. Instead of just saying “Merry Christmas”, how about you recap the year or discuss special memories that you had with that person. The key to making this gift shine is pouring your heart out on the card.
2. Gift an item that the person needs.
Now this involves listening or observing the circumstances of your friend or loved one. Does your friend always complain about a sore back due to their job? Maybe it would be a good idea to book a massage for them, or purchase a neck massager.
3. Give a stock as a gift.
Now don’t go investing a whole heap of money in stock, but it would be unique to gift 1 stock to a love one and spend the year watching the stock grow. This could help with ongoing bonding and you both can learn something new together (and of course, this one takes some strategy on your part!)
4. Spend Quality time.
Sometimes it’s easy to just drop a gift off and feel as if you’ve completed your mission for the season. Thats fine and dandy, but in most cases people may just want to see your face. Treating your friend to a movie or a simple bite to eat can go a long way.
5. Handmade Gifts.
I love these types of gifts because you can truly customize them to the person. Maybe your friend loves handmade candles, or your famous banana pudding; you can use your creativity (and what you know about your relationship with your loved one) to make an unforgettable gift that you KNOW they’ll love. & the twist is – you’d be practicing your craft and gifting your friends at the same time!
