As we get ready for another memorial day, I think it’s important to pause and reflect on what we’re really doing. For a moment, forget about the cookouts and overwhelming coupons in your email; get down to the core of it all. Memorial Day is really about honoring the people who took the pledge to serve our country and sacrificed for our freedoms. I know it’s not the happy-go-lucky story that we want, but it’s the real deal. After completing the Our Hero pattern, I pondered about those fallen soldiers and their ultimate sacrifice. I may not know them all by name, but they were mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters, and ultimately loved by many. I hope this memorial day you can reflect on the true meaning of this day and take the time out to place a flower or flag on a veteran’s gravestone.
