Embroidery with Aurifil Variegated Thread

Embroidery with Aurifil Variegated Thread

The heat has arrived, and it’s toasty outside! Maybe it’s the summer baby in me, but I’m ready to enjoy the warm sun consistently after such a harsh winter in Ohio. There’s nothing like free vitamin D, right?! 🌞. I could go on and on about my love for the heat, but I will save that for another blog.

Let’s get into my first Aurifil project! If you haven’t been on social media, let me give you a quick update. I’m officially on the 2022-2023 Aurifil Artisan team! I’m so excited to learn from the other artisans, grow as a sewist, and cook up some creative stuff to share with you.

Oh, before I get into the project, here’s a little background about my machine embroidery journey. I started learning about embroidery in 2013, then soon after, I purchased my Brother innovΓs machine. I also began learning how to digitalize my art around the same time. Whew, I still remember the stressful nights of trying to delete negative space from letters (so not fun), but I’m happy that I didn’t give up. After college, I took a long break from the world of embroidery, but this year I’m happy to return to it.

I used my iPad Pro and Apple pencil to create the lettered design in Procreate.

For this project, I used sulky cut-away stabilizer, and some mustard fabric that I’m sure has been sitting in my drawer for about two years. πŸ˜‚ This pouch can be used to store sewing supplies or any other small items. I stitched the embroidery design using Aurifil’s 50wt thread in 3817. I must admit that I have never sewn anything with variegated thread before, but I was pleasantly surprised by the finished outcome. Oh, and not one thread broke during the 9 mins of stitching. See the thread and pouch awesomeness below.🀩

Here’s a quick snippet of the embroidery process.

I finished the pouch by adding a kiss clasp used for coin purses.

Quick Tip: If you decide to create this with a fabric that frays, don’t forget to use some good ol’ fray check!

Here’s the inside of the pouch empty and full.

If you’re wondering how to get your hands on the free pouch pattern and/or the embroidery file, I linked them below. Thanks in advance for your support!

Well, that’s the review of my first Aurifil project! It’s nice to get back into sewing regularly and developing embroidery designs for everyday things.

✨ Blog Question of the Day ✨

Before you go, I have a question for you. Have you tried any of Aurifil’s Variegated threads? If so, let me know in the comments and add the thread number if you can.

Well, until next time, have a craftastic day, and thanks for your support!
