Hey family, Omgoodness it’s been so long? Well, I guess my last post was in February, but still, that feels like forever ago.
Were you wondering why my blog content slowed down? Well, here’s the long and short – I became a busy bee. Yea, between taking care of our exploring toddler and my other blogging responsibilities, my time became limited. But, today is my comeback! I’m excited to get back on the blogging train and share some projects with you.
Alright, so you’ve read the title, and now you know that today is all about Moss. This type of chalkboard design is usually seen at a wedding or bridal shower, but it can be used for any event.
There are many ways to design a moss chalkboard, but today we will be focusing on a triangular design. If you’re interested in seeing other designs, feel free to email me your blog request here. Okay, are you ready to make something quick and stylish? Let’s gather the supplies!
Here’s what you’ll need for this project:
- Supermoss All Purpose Moss Mat
- Tim Holtz Craft Scissors
- Clover 45mm Rotary Cutter
- Straight Ruler or Protractor
- MONO Twin Permanent Marker
- 18″ x 10″ Chalkboard
- Chalk
- Cutting Mat
- Pencil Sharpener
Let’s Start!
Step 1: Create a position line
We will start by using chalk to create a moss position line. The line will extend from the right corner of your chalkboard to the middle left side. Next, we will create another line that’s about 1 inch up from where the previous line ended.
Step 2: Measure the chalkboard
Now we’re going to measure the chalkboard as much we can. This step would be easier if you had this ruler from Omnigrid because it can fit inside the chalkboard, but for today we will guesstimate! Plus, it’s okay to cut a little extra to prevent any issues.
Step 3: Create Cut Lines
Let’s transfer the measurements to the back of the moss mat.
Flip the moss mat around, then use a black pen to mark to cut lines.
Step 4: Cut the moss
Use your scissors or a rotary cutter to cut the moss.
If you’re using a rotary cutter, be sure to press down on the moss while slowly following the cut line.
Place the moss mat on the position lines, then trim the overlapping pieces.
Step 5: Adhere the moss to the chalkboard
This is the fun part! Slowly place the moss cutouts onto the chalkboard.
Quick Note: If you want to fill in the gaps where you can see the chalkboard, pull from then extra moss then, grab your favorite glue to fill it in.
⚠️ Mess Warning: This is a messy project, so keep a mini vacuum or broom and dustpan nearby for clean-up.
Step 6: Design it!
Whoah! Look at this chalkboard. Isn’t it super stylish? The angled look is perfect for any outdoor event or celebration.
If you’re a calligrapher or letterer, this could also work well for client work. It’s totally up to you how you design it, but make sure you have fun with it!
Well, that’s it for today! I’m so happy to be back chatting with you and I can wait to share my next project.
If you decide to create this, you know I want to see it!
