Are you starting Bible Journaling in 2025?
If so, this blog series is here for you to learn all about handlettering the books of the Bible. Each week, I will post a blog with an accompanying video that will walk you through how to train your hands in the art of handlettering for bible journaling.
Wait, before I go any further 👇
❗️extra practice alert❗️
Handlettering isn’t going to be easy. I want to tell you that immediately so you don’t get discouraged. It may take you a week or a month to master Genesis, so don’t be overwhelmed if you can’t grasp handlettering in one day. You may need to rewatch specific steps over again to help you get the thin and thick strokes in your memory.
Alright, let’s get to practicing!
Step 1.
The pens for handlettering in a Bible Journal
From Sakura to Karin and all the way to Tombow, there are so many handlettering markers on the market. Please don’t get too lost, my friend. If you don’t want to go down a rabbit hole, check out my Amazon storefront to see my favorites. You will also find my favorite paper to use.

Step 2.
bible journaling with the bible lettering workbook
Back in 2020, I made the bible lettering workbook, and after five years, I’m finally talking about it again. You can see the pages in the video, but it includes a practice sheet, uppercase and lowercase abcs and
all the books of the bible.
The pdf file can also be used in procreate, adobe fresco or if you like handlettering in photoshop you can practice using that program too.

❗️here’s the free practice sheet❗️
If you want to use the exact sheet from the video, here’s the free Genesis practice sheet! Don’t forget to sign up for The Zeal Club Newsletter to receive the free Exodus sheet next week.
Step 3.
Starting with the first book of the bible: Genesis
I decided to handletter the word Genesis at the stop so you can see what it looks like. The lettering in the workbook may look slightly different because I created it back in 2020, but the learning steps are the same.
Step 4.
handlettering thin & Thick line strokes
No matter how many handlettering videos you watch for bible journaling, there is one step people will always say,”Practice those thin and thick line strokes.” It’s true! The more you practice those strokes, the easier the lettering process will become.
Step 5.
improving your handlettering with each stroke
Now we’re here at the individual letters. Make sure you watch the video and slowly playback the letters that you need to see. Don’t forget YouTube allows you to slow the video down by clicking the gear icon on the lower right side of the video.
Let’s Pray
Lord, we thank you for loving us and giving us your word to meditate on. May you continue to keep us and guide use as we walk throughout this week. Also, we pray for the families that have been impacted by the California wildfires, may you restore what was lost and provide healing for the land.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen🙏🏾
