Who doesn’t love a good marker review? Today we’re reviewing the new Blick Studio Alcohol Markers. Shout out to the kind folks at Blick who sent me their markers to try for free and review.
Now, I own a lot of markers. I would say that I could be a marker connoisseur, but I will save that story for another blog. Alcohol markers have been on the market for a while, but whoa, they are extremely popular right now. I tried Ohuhu markers when they first came out and Tombow alcohol markers when I was on their design team back in 2020/2021. I say all that to say that it’s been a long time since I reviewed another brand of alcohol markers, but I’m up for the challenge!
Here are some pictures from my Tombow projects using alcohol markers.

Now, let’s dive right into the Blick Studio Markers.
If you’re a video person, the check out the Youtube below.

Blick sent me their 24 assorted colors pack and 12 portrait colors pack with a smooth bristol paper pad.

The assorted pack comes in a magnetic-snap box that is pretty sturdy. You can take it on-the-go and not worry about the markers being scattered everywhere. The box includes a swatch card so you can see how the color looks once the ink hits the paper. If you like coloring, but don’t use a swatch card, hmm maybe you should. I say this because the description of the color can seem lighter or darker than what you expect.

Oh, please ignore the fact that I spelled portrait wrong while I was filming this. Aye, it happens, lol. Anyway, I was happy to see that half of the markers in the portrait pack can be used for drawings that live in the world of my skin tone. Believe it or not, finding that in one box is not always easy.

As much as I love the box for travel, I wish the marker caps snapped to the back of the marker. We have all had that experience when you didn’t catch the marker cap rolling, and now you’re spending the next 10 minutes looking for it.

When I opened the marker, I did notice a faint odor, but it wasn’t as overpowering
as the smell of eraser board markers—we all know that smell is quite strong!
My absolute favorite combo is warm black and black for textured hair.
I love a cute curly afro, but y’all already know that!

You can get a decent amount of color with one coat, but if you want to make sure your coloring is super opaque, you may want to apply two coats. Personally, I won’t always use two colors unless I’m working with skintones and adding shadows.

The ink from these alcohol markers provide a good amount of pigment coverage. I noticed that the bleed didn’t seep too much onto the back side of the paper, which is impressive to me.

Alright! Well, that’s it for the Blick Studio Alcohol Marker Review. I hope it was helpful for you are you look into the best alcohol markers to fit your needs.
Don’t be surprised if you see more coloring projects on the blog as I’m finally getting back into drawing.
