Prepping for a wedding can be super overwhelming. Don’t get me started on the brain tornado that happens when you try to find the perfect veil to match your dress. Hmm…well, let’s actually talk about it because I have a budget-friendly wedding veil project waiting just for you!
Okay, Veils. They can be long, short, pearled, ombre’d bedazzled, hemmed, round, blunt-cut, laced, glittered, and the list goes on.😬 You can spend days searching for the right veil to fit you’re dress, but fear not! I, Danielle have an easier option for you!
Introducing the DIY Kanzashi Flower Wedding Veil.
It’s simple yet chic, and the price can’t be beat! Aye, all of you like that rhyme, right?
I know you’re hands are itching to make this veil, so let’s get into the supplies.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- Clover Kanzashi Flower Maker (Gathered/Small) Art No. 8484
- Clover Desk Needle Threader Art No. 4071
- Clover Gold Eye Milliners Art No. 236
- Clover Patchwork Scissors Art No. 493/L
- Clear Hair Comb
- White Thread
- Hot Glue
- Tulle
- Flat Pearls
- String Pearls
Directions:
Step 1. Start by cutting ten satin strips that measure 3 inches by 4 inches.
I used a No.9 needle (needle on the end), Clover’s Needle Threader ,and Aurifil’s 50 wt hand sewing thread to construct the Kanzashi flowers.
Step 2. Add the satin strips to the Kanzashi flower maker, then trim the excess fabric.
Step 3. The Kanzashi Flower maker is numbered from 1-8. After creating a knot, follow the numbers to complete the stitching.

Step 4. Release the satin fabric from the flower maker, then gently tug on the thread until the fabric folds into a triangle-like shape. Tug it tighter to complete one pleated petal. Continue steps 2-4 without cutting the thread.
You will need ten petals to complete a flower.
Step 5. Now that the petals are all attached, let’s finish the Kanzashi flower! Place your needle through the first petal, then pull the thread tight.
Create a thick knot to keep the petals in place, then grab a flat pearl and glue it to the center.
Step 6. Prep the veil by creating pleats like an accordion, folding the top of the tulle over 1 1/2 inches, then hand sewing a straight stitch across to keep the pleats from unfolding.
Glue the veil to the comb, then hand stitch or glue the flowers to the top of the veil.
Step 7. If you want to go the extra mile, rethread your needle with two pieces of thread, then string some pearls under each flower.
Here’s how the finished Kanzashi wedding veil looks! Stunning, right?!
Here’s how I adjusted the pearls to change up the style.
I hope you enjoyed learning how to create this simple wedding veil using Kanzashi flowers and pearls. Now if anyone asks you, “How do you make Japanese Kanzashi flowers?”, You can share this blog and the Clover’s Kanzashi Flower Maker tool with them!
