Today I have the pleasure of sharing this excellent book created by my new friend Mollie Johanson. Getting to know Mollie over this past year has been such a joy! I couldn’t help but jump at the chance to join the virtual book tour for her Cross Stitch Celebrations: Bundle of Joy book release. Plus, everyone knows that I’m obsessed with creative books! 😂
Here’s some of the awesomeness inside Mollie’s new book. Aren’t the projects so adorable?!
I must share that Bundle of Joy is one of those creative books that will warm your heart. It’s filled with cutesy cross-stitch charts for baby celebrations, birth announcements, and much more. These types of projects are beginner-friendly and not as time-consuming.
After reviewing the book, my head buzzed with creative ideas! I settled on stitching out a custom reading bookmark for Elias. We recently enrolled him into a summer reading group through our local library. Seeing Eli engage in reading and even spell out words has been amazing. I thought it would be cool to create a bookmark to commemorate his accomplishment.
Here’s what you’ll need to create a bookmark:
- Perforated Plastic Canvas
- Thread Cutter
- Aurifil Cotton Floss in (2225, 5015, 2865 and 6738)
- Size 24 Tapestry Needles
I used a mixture of the alphabets on pages 58-67 to organize the design. I found that using three strands of Aurifil’s Cotton Floss worked perfectly to keep the white canvas from peeking through.
My favorite section in the book would have to be the dressmaker pin tip on page 72. I’m always looking for new ways to complete projects, so this part of the book was very helpful.
I had such a wonderful time reviewing Mollie’s new book, and I totally recommend it if you want to create customized gifts for babies or toddlers.

What a super cute idea to make a bookmark to encourage your kids to read. I want to make the dinosaur for my grandson. He is 20 months and loves to “Rawr!” Like a dinosaur! :o)
Missy, that “Rawr” just totally made me smile! Our son Elias loves to say the same thing when we chat about lions lol. It’s absolutely adorable! Thanks so much for sharing and giving me a laugh for the day. 😂
There are so many good projects to stitch from this book, but I think I like the bear on the cover best.
Yea, I can’t deny that the bear is pretty nice! Mollie did a wonderful job designing the chart as well. Thanks so much for commenting and entering the contest. 💕
Lovely book – I would make the dinosaur for my little grandson.
Oh Annehaun, I bet your grandson would love it! Thanks so much for sharing 💕
This is such a great idea! I’d not have thought of this. I think this could help my little reader be a little more excited about reading! Or maybe to commemorate my own reading in a year 😉
Thanks Randi! I started stitching out something completely different until I thought about the reading challenge. It also didn’t take too long to work up, which is always a plus! 😃 Thanks so much for commenting and sharing your thoughts!
I would make the whale to match a baby quilt I just made!
I love a good baby quilt! I’ve only made two, but it’s a pretty cool process. Thanks for sharing, Wendy!
Oh that whale!!! 🐳 sigh…. what a cute book. And I love your bookmark idea!
I know right! Isn’t it the cutest?! Thank you! Elias seems to like it too!
Thank you!!! Love the crafting community!
